MARRIAGE OF FOREIGN NATIONALS IN GREECE
There are three steps to making sure you have the right paperwork…
Foreign nationals not resident in Greece, wishing to marry may do so,
provided that they allow sufficient time for the local authorities to
receive and process their application with the necessary documentation
in order for them to issue the marriage license.
My Greek Wedding will require your documents to be sent to us by courier
one month before the wedding date.
The documents required by both persons who intend to marry are the following:
- Full birth certificate (with parents’ names)
- Certificate of No Impediment to marriage - this certificate can be
obtained from your local Superintendent Registrar. This document must
not be issued more than three (3) months before the desired date of the
wedding. It takes approximately a month to be issued by the Registrar.
- Decree absolute, if there has been a divorce.
- Deed Poll, if name has been changed.
First Step
All documents, in English, must be officially certified (legalised) by
the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (Apostille Seal), Legalisation
Department.
Send or take your documents to:
Norfolk House West
437 Silbury Boulevard
Milton Keynes
MK9 2AH
The FCO Legalisation Office Web Site could be found by clicking on their
website
The next step is to translate all your documents into Greek. My Greek
Wedding planners will advise you of a translator that we have been working
very successfully with in the past.
Next step is to legalize the signature of the Official Translator at the
Greek Consulate in London:
Translations Department,
Consulate General of Greece,
1A Holland Park
London W11 3TP
All the above documents, along with photocopies of both 10 year valid
passports should be sent by courier to…
Kostas Minetos
Andromeda Centre
Lourdas
Vlachata 28082
Kefalonia
Greece
For all types of weddings, it is required that two witnesses be present.
In case that the groom and the bride are traveling on their own, our staff
will be happy to offer assistance and act as witnesses at the wedding
ceremony.
